Acute Care for the Elderly Unit
Trinity Hospital’s Acute Care for the Elderly (ACE), the area’s first NICHE certified unit, is specifically designed to meet the needs of the older adult population through providing individualized patient care to improve clinical outcomes in these patients. The unit provides interdisciplinary care to acutely ill patients 65 or older with complex medical problems who are at particular risk for complications during hospitalizations. Using a comprehensive team approach, ACE is a model of inpatient care geared to avoid complications and return elderly patients to their level of baseline function prior to hospitalization through attention to care protocols that ensure skin integrity, maintain strength and mobility, and decrease instances of potential infections or falls. With open visiting hours and comfortable family sleeping accommodations, this special nursing unit creates a home-like setting and strongly encourages family involvement.
